Anna Hazare Hospitalised With Viral Infection
Social activist Anna Hazare has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Bombay Hospital in Mumbai after developing a severe viral infection and acute dehydration. Doctors are also assessing his kidney function as he remains under close medical observation.
Anna Hazare Admitted to ICU in Mumbai
Hazare was initially undergoing treatment at a medical facility near his native village of Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district.
After his condition worsened, doctors advised that he be shifted to Mumbai for advanced treatment. He was brought to Bombay Hospital in South Mumbai on Monday in a cardiac ambulance accompanied by his caretakers.
Hazare is currently being treated under the supervision of senior physician Dr Gautam Bhansali.
Doctors Assess Dehydration and Kidney Function
Medical examinations are being conducted to determine the extent of complications caused by the viral infection and severe dehydration.
Doctors are also monitoring Hazare’s kidney function before deciding on the next phase of treatment. He remains under continuous observation in the ICU.
No official indication has been given that his condition is immediately life-threatening, although doctors are continuing detailed assessments.
Anna Hazare Known for Anti-Corruption Movement
Hazare is one of India’s most prominent social activists and became nationally recognised for his anti-corruption campaigns.
His 2011 movement demanding stronger anti-corruption legislation drew widespread public participation and played a major role in bringing the Lokpal issue into national political debate.
Hazare has continued to campaign on governance, transparency, rural development and electoral reforms from Ralegan Siddhi.
