Andhra Medico Priyanka Dies After Car Attack
A 28-year-old postgraduate medical student, Dr Kanike Priyanka, has died after suffering severe injuries in an incident near a shopping mall in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. Police allege that the car involved deliberately rammed the scooter she was travelling on multiple times.
Dr Priyanka Dies After Rajahmundry Incident
The incident occurred on August 3 near Prasaditya Mall when Priyanka and fellow medical student Umesh were leaving on a scooter after watching a movie.
Police said two men who had earlier been involved in an argument with mall security personnel drove away in a Tata Nexon and struck the scooter. Priyanka suffered critical head and facial injuries, while Umesh was also injured.
She was initially treated in Rajahmundry before being shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad, where she died on August 9 after several days of treatment.
Police Allege Scooter Was Rammed Three Times
East Godavari Police said CCTV footage, witness statements and other evidence indicated that the incident was not simply a road accident.
Police allege that the accused deliberately rammed the scooter three times. Investigators are also examining claims that attempts were made to alter the car’s number plate after fleeing the scene.
Two Accused Arrested, Investigation Continues
The two accused were arrested on August 6 and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Police have said they will seek custody for further questioning and continue collecting evidence before filing a chargesheet.
Priyanka’s death has triggered demands from her family, friends and medical students for stringent punishment and a speedy investigation.
