Amit Shah Says Dhankhar Resigned Due to Health, Ignores Speculation
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has clarified that former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned solely for health reasons. In an interview, he dismissed speculation from opposition leaders suggesting other motives, including allegations of house arrest. The resignation letter, he emphasized, clearly cites health as the cause and expresses gratitude towards government members.
Opposition Questions the Official Reason
Congress leaders, including Ashok Gehlot and Jairam Ramesh, have raised concerns over Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation on July 21, on the first day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. Citing his active participation earlier that day and undisclosed events between 1 pm and 4:30 pm, they pointed to deeper, undisclosed reasons behind the decision.
Past Health Incidents Provide Context
Dhankhar had undergone a cardiac-related procedure at AIIMS in March and fainted during a public event in June, lending credibility to the health-based explanation. Despite these episodes, his sudden withdrawal from public life post-resignation continues to fuel debate.
Standstill Amid Political Tension
Shah urged the opposition to respect privacy and not escalate rumors, saying, “One should not stretch it too much.” Opposition figures countered by calling for clarity and transparency, with some describing the situation as unprecedented.
