AIADMK MLA and former minister P. Balakrishna Reddy has urged the Tamil Nadu government to abandon the proposed Hosur airport, arguing that farmers in the region should receive the same consideration given to those affected by the now-scrapped Parandur airport project.

Reddy raised the issue in the Tamil Nadu Assembly during a debate on demands for grants for the Housing and Urban Development Department.
He said farmers and residents in the Hosur region were opposing the proposed airport and urged the TVK government to reconsider the project before proceeding with land acquisition.
Reddy argued that the government had responded to farmer concerns at Parandur and should apply a similar approach in Hosur.
Hosur Farmers Raise Agricultural Land Concerns
The AIADMK legislator said farmers around Hosur had already surrendered significant portions of their land for industrial projects, including developments linked to SIPCOT.
He argued that further acquisition of agricultural land for the airport would place an additional burden on communities that have already contributed land for the region’s industrial expansion.
The Hosur airport proposal envisages a major new aviation facility serving the rapidly industrialising region near Bengaluru.
Tamil Nadu Government Rejects Demand
Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan rejected the suggestion that agricultural land could be completely avoided when implementing large infrastructure projects.
He told the Assembly that land acquisition was often unavoidable for major development initiatives and indicated that the government remained committed to the Hosur airport proposal.
The debate follows Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s decision to scrap the Parandur airport project after prolonged opposition from farmers and residents.
The contrasting positions are likely to intensify debate over balancing infrastructure development with protection of agricultural land in Tamil Nadu.
