Afghanistan Minister Praises India’s Hospitality
Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlawi Attaullah Omari, has praised India’s hospitality during his first official visit to the country. He said the warm reception made him feel at home and highlighted the historical and cultural links between the two nations.
Afghan Minister Praises India’s Warm Welcome
Omari said he received a warm welcome from the Indian government, the Ministry of External Affairs and other officials from the day he arrived.
Describing the relationship between the people of India and Afghanistan, the minister said it felt as though he was among his own people. He added that the two countries share deep historical and cultural connections, using the phrase “our DNA is one” to emphasise their closeness.
The visit marked Omari’s first trip to India.
India-Afghanistan Agriculture Talks Held
During the visit, Omari held bilateral discussions with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The talks focused on expanding cooperation in agriculture, irrigation, livestock development, agricultural research and capacity building. The two sides also discussed opportunities to improve productivity and modernise Afghanistan’s agriculture-dependent economy.
India offered to share technical expertise, agricultural practices and institutional knowledge in areas that could support Afghan farmers.
Afghanistan Seeks Modern Farming Support
Omari stressed that agriculture remains central to Afghanistan’s economy and provides livelihoods for a large section of its population.
He highlighted the need for modern machinery, improved seeds, better irrigation systems, food processing facilities and enhanced market access.
The visit also included broader discussions on trade, connectivity and development cooperation between India and Afghanistan. Both sides expressed interest in strengthening practical engagement in sectors directly connected to food security and rural livelihoods.
