3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Baramulla

A mild earthquake measuring magnitude 3.6 struck Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district early Monday, July 13. No casualties or property damage were reported following the tremor.

Baramulla Earthquake Recorded Early Monday

The earthquake occurred at approximately 2 am and originated at a depth of 10 kilometres beneath the surface. The epicentre was located in Baramulla district in northern Kashmir.

Residents in parts of the district reportedly experienced mild tremors during the early hours. However, there were no immediate reports of structural damage, injuries or disruption to essential services.

Local authorities continued to monitor the situation after the seismic activity. As the earthquake was relatively low in magnitude, it was not expected to cause significant damage, although shallow earthquakes can sometimes be felt more clearly near their epicentre.

No Damage Reported After Kashmir Tremor

Emergency and administrative authorities did not announce any rescue or relief operations following the earthquake. No damage to residential buildings, roads or public infrastructure had been reported at the time of the initial assessment.

Residents were advised to remain calm and follow standard earthquake safety precautions in case of aftershocks.

Previous Earthquake Struck Baramulla in February

Baramulla district experienced a stronger earthquake earlier this year. A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the region on February 2, with its epicentre reported near the Pattan area.

That earthquake also originated at a depth of around 10 kilometres. Monday’s 3.6-magnitude event was considerably weaker than the February tremor.

Jammu and Kashmir lies in a seismically active Himalayan region and regularly experiences earthquakes of varying magnitudes due to ongoing tectonic activity.
