18 Yemeni Soldiers Killed in Houthi Attack
Yemen’s military has said 18 of its personnel were killed in coordinated Houthi ballistic missile and suicide-drone attacks on government military camps in Marib and Hadramout. The dead included 17 soldiers and one officer, according to the latest official casualty assessment.
Houthi Attack Kills 18 Yemeni Soldiers
The attacks targeted camps operated by forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised government in the Marib and Hadramout governorates.
Houthi forces used ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones during the strikes, marking a significant escalation in fighting between the Iran-backed group and government-aligned forces.
Initial reports circulating after the attacks gave varying casualty figures, but Yemen’s military later confirmed that 18 personnel had been killed.
Marib and Hadramout Military Camps Targeted
Marib has remained one of the most strategically important areas in Yemen’s prolonged conflict and has repeatedly witnessed clashes between Houthi forces and government troops.
Hadramout, meanwhile, holds strategic importance because of its large territory, energy infrastructure and location in eastern Yemen.
The latest attacks come amid heightened regional tensions involving the Houthis, Iran and several neighbouring countries, with missile and drone operations increasingly affecting both military targets and regional shipping.
Yemeni Military Vows to Continue Operations
Yemen’s Joint Operations Command said its armed forces remained fully prepared following the strikes and would continue their military duties.
The military said the attacks would not deter government forces from pursuing their stated objective of restoring State authority across Yemen.
The Houthis control the capital Sanaa and substantial areas of northern and western Yemen, while the internationally recognised government and allied forces control much of the south and east.
