Zelenskyy Seeks India’s Role in Peace Efforts
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed hope that India will contribute to international efforts aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. In a message on platform X, shared hours before a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, he wrote:
“We hope that India will contribute to efforts aimed at ending the war, so that our freedom and sovereignty are truly secure.”
He also conveyed optimism about future Ukraine-India cooperation in science, technology, trade, and culture, along with wishes for “peace and prosperity.”
Context of the Statement
Zelenskyy’s message came at a time of growing global pressure to find a path toward peace in the fourth year of the conflict. The Anchorage summit, set to bring together U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin, is being viewed as a key diplomatic opportunity to push for ceasefire talks and fresh negotiations.
India’s Position
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a recent call with Zelenskyy, reaffirmed India’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy. Modi also welcomed the Trump-Putin summit, describing it as a potential venue for reducing tensions and working toward de-escalation.
