Zelenskyy Meets European Leaders, Seeks Unity On Truce Plan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met European leaders in London to discuss progress on a possible truce with Russia. The meeting was attended by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The discussions focused on aligning European positions with a US-mediated plan that aims to create a path toward ending the conflict.
No agreement on territory yet
Zelenskyy said that although talks are moving forward, major disagreements remain over the status of eastern Ukraine, especially territories occupied by Russian forces. He stressed that Ukraine will not accept any settlement that compromises its territorial integrity. Security guarantees, not just a ceasefire, remain a central demand for Kyiv.
Europe reaffirms support
After the meeting, European leaders reiterated their support for Ukraine and called for increased pressure on Russia. They said sanctions would continue and that economic and military aid to Kyiv would be maintained. The leaders also discussed how frozen Russian assets could be used to support Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Next steps in negotiation
Zelenskyy noted that a peace framework is being refined with European partners and will soon be presented to the United States. He said Ukraine is willing to negotiate, but only from a position that ensures long-term security and a fair settlement. More meetings with international partners are expected in the coming weeks.
