Zelenskyy Highlights PM Modi’s Role in Influencing Ukraine-Russia Peace
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ability to influence the resolution of the ongoing Ukraine war.
Zelenskyy believes that PM Modi’s stance on Russian energy imports could significantly impact Russia’s capacity to wage war.
Speaking in an interview with The Times of India, Zelenskyy stated, “PM Modi can influence the end of the Ukraine war. This is the huge value of him in any conflict. This is the huge value of India,” emphasizing Modi’s potential to curb Russian aggression by refusing cheap energy supplies, thereby limiting Moscow’s war capabilities.
Negotiations with Russia Could Be Held in India
Zelenskyy also suggested that future peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia could be held in India. However, he stressed that any discussions must align with Ukraine’s terms, given that the conflict is taking place on Ukrainian soil. The Ukrainian President mentioned the importance of preparing for the second Global Peace Summit, set for November.
Concerns Over US Elections and NATO Membership
The uncertainty surrounding the November 5 U.S. elections and potential shifts in military aid are causing apprehension for Zelenskyy. He noted that a Republican victory, particularly with Donald Trump, could lead to a reduction in U.S. support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine is not seeking immediate NATO membership but hopes for an invitation to join in the future to prevent future conflicts.
As the Ukraine war enters a critical phase, Zelenskyy remains optimistic about India’s role in influencing the path to peace.
