Zelensky Welcomes “Principles” of U.S. Peace Draft
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that the “principles” of a revised U.S. draft plan to end the war with Russia could form the basis of “deeper agreements,” while emphasising that much now “depends on America.” The plan, which has not yet been publicly released in full, updates a previously leaked version that drew strong criticism for favouring Moscow’s demands.
Kyiv Stressing Sovereignty and Allied Coordination
In his daily address, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine remains committed to a “just and dignified peace,” and made clear that any framework must respect Ukrainian sovereignty. He also underscored the need for close coordination with his U.S. counterparts and clearly signalled that Kyiv will evaluate the plan in partnership with its European allies.
Uncertainty Remains Over Key Terms and Timeline
While Zelensky’s endorsement of the core “principles” signals openness, Ukraine has yet to agree to the full draft, and negotiations are ongoing. Key details—such as how much Ukrainian territory might be conceded, or how military and security guarantees will be structured—remain unresolved. As both Washington and Kyiv deliberate, the broader diplomatic effort to end nearly four years of war enters a new phase.
