Zelensky Rejects US Peace Plan For Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected a new US-drafted peace plan, saying it forces Ukraine to choose between “dignity” and maintaining key partnerships. The 28-point proposal, linked to the Trump administration, reportedly asks Ukraine to scale down its military, give up plans to join NATO and accept terms favourable to Russia. Zelensky said such conditions undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and are unacceptable in their current form.
Europe Seeks Alternative Framework
The proposal has triggered concern among European allies. Diplomats from France, Germany and the United Kingdom are engaged in discussions with Kyiv in Geneva to explore options that ensure Ukraine’s territorial integrity. European leaders have questioned some elements of the plan, with many warning that it mirrors key Russian demands and risks weakening Ukraine’s negotiating position.
Strategic Impact On The War
By rejecting the plan, Ukraine signals it will continue its present military and diplomatic strategy. Analysts say Zelensky’s stance keeps Ukraine aligned with European partners rather than shifting toward a settlement seen as too concessionary. The US, meanwhile, appears to be pushing for faster negotiations, increasing pressure on Kyiv at a sensitive moment in the conflict.
