Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Tendulkar’s Record at The Oval

Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scripted history during the ongoing fifth Test against England at The Oval, surpassing a long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar. With a composed and confident knock, Jaiswal crossed 1,100 runs in the 2025 Test series, becoming the highest Indian run-scorer in a single Test series—eclipsing Tendulkar’s 1,093 runs scored during India’s historic 1997–98 home season.

Jaiswal’s landmark innings at The Oval on Friday added another glittering chapter to his already impressive debut year. At just 23, he has been one of India’s most consistent performers during the series. His patient and fluent batting has been crucial to India’s dominance over England, especially in overseas conditions.

Tendulkar’s previous record came across 7 Tests during a full domestic season that included matches against Australia and South Africa. In contrast, Jaiswal’s achievement comes entirely in overseas conditions during a five-match series, making the milestone even more special.

India’s innings at The Oval was built around Jaiswal’s solid foundation, with the opener showing maturity beyond his years. He partnered well with Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma to stabilize the innings, punishing loose deliveries while remaining watchful against testing spells by England’s pace attack.

This performance also places Jaiswal among the top five all-time run-scorers in a single Test series globally. He joins the ranks of legendary batters like Don Bradman and West Indies’ Brian Lara, who hold similar distinctions.

Indian cricket fans have showered Jaiswal with praise across social media, hailing him as the new face of Indian Test batting. With more matches to come in the ICC calendar, expectations from the young star have now grown even higher.
