Xi Jinping Calls India, China Friends on Republic Day
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent greetings to India on its 77th Republic Day, describing India and China as “friends, partners and good neighbours”. In a message addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Xi said stable and cooperative ties between the two countries are important not only for both nations but also for global peace and development.
Emphasis on Cooperation
Xi said China is willing to work with India to strengthen communication, expand cooperation, and properly manage differences. He underlined the need for mutual respect and dialogue, adding that improved relations would benefit the people of both countries.
Bilateral Context
India and China share a complex relationship marked by cooperation as well as tensions, particularly along the Line of Actual Control. Diplomatic and military-level talks have continued in recent years to manage border issues and prevent escalation. Recent engagements have focused on restoring normalcy in ties while maintaining strategic caution.
The Republic Day message is seen as part of ongoing diplomatic communication between the two Asian neighbours, even as both sides remain engaged in discussions on security, trade, and regional stability.
