Washington Sundar Confident of India’s Win at Lord’s
India all-rounder Washington Sundar expressed strong confidence ahead of day five at Lord’s, believing India’s chase of 193 will be successful thanks to the depth in their batting lineup.
After a career‑best spell of 4 for 22 on day four to bowl England out for 192, Sundar said that having “solid batters in the dressing room” boosts team morale and provides belief in chasing down the modest target.
India faced early setbacks in their run chase on day four, slipping to 58 for 4 with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Karun Nair, and nightwatchman Akash Deep back in the pavilion. However, opener KL Rahul, unbeaten on 33, held the innings steady as India approached the close of play, needing 135 more runs to secure a 2–1 lead in the five‑match series.
Speaking in a post‑day press conference, Sundar said:
“We’ll take it any day… we’ve got some solid batsmen in the dressing room… winning a Test at Lord’s is going to be amazing.”
He also reflected on his bowling performance:
“One of the best days with the ball for me, especially outside India… I had solid plans and executed them well.”
Sundar emphasised the positive energy and aggression in both teams throughout the match, noting that recent on‑field tensions have injected momentum and intensity into play.
India’s next challenge lies in navigating the tricky fifth‑day pitch. With key batters yet to take the crease—including Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Sundar himself—the team remains hopeful that the combined batting strength will guide them to a memorable victory at Lord’s.
If they succeed, India will not only win this prestigious Test but also seize a series lead on English soil. The focus now is on staying calm, executing plans, and leveraging depth to close out the chase.
