Wangchuk Vows to Stay in Jail Until Justice

Jailed activist and engineer Sonam Wangchuk has issued a message from Jodhpur Central Jail, declaring he will remain incarcerated until an independent judicial inquiry is conducted into the September 24 firing in Leh that claimed four lives and injured more than 70 people.

Call for Independent Probe

Speaking through intermediaries, Wangchuk demanded a judicial investigation led by a retired Supreme Court judge. He rejected the local magisterial inquiry as insufficient and said he would not accept the removal of charges until full accountability is ensured.

Appeal for Peaceful Resistance

Wangchuk urged the people of Ladakh to sustain their struggle for statehood and Sixth Schedule protection through non-violent means. He expressed solidarity with the Apex Body Leh and the Kargil Democratic Alliance, endorsing their constitutional demands.

Legal Status and Next Steps

Wangchuk was arrested on September 26 under the National Security Act (NSA), two days after protests in Leh turned violent. A Supreme Court hearing is underway on a petition filed by his wife seeking his release and challenging his detention. Meanwhile, both the Apex Body and Kargil alliance have refused further talks with the government until their demands are met.
