Voter Roll Revision Extended by One Week in 12 States
The Election Commission of India has extended the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls by seven days across 12 states and Union Territories. The extension gives citizens more time to update their voter details, submit forms, and verify their entries.
Draft List to Be Released on December 16
Under the revised schedule, the draft electoral roll will now be published on December 16, 2025. After publication, voters can file claims and objections. The final updated voter list is set for release on February 14, 2026.
States and UTs Covered Under the Extension
The revision covers major states such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Goa, along with union territories like Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. The nationwide exercise aims to ensure that rolls remain accurate before upcoming elections.
Purpose of Extending the Deadline
Officials said the extension will help reduce errors, prevent omissions, and allow more eligible voters to be added. The move is expected to improve participation and strengthen electoral transparency ahead of the next election cycle.
