Vizag Sets Guinness Record with 3 Lakh at Mass Yoga Event

Vizag made history on June 21 by bringing together over 300,105 people in a single venue to perform yoga, creating a new Guinness World Record for the largest yoga session ever held at one location. The monumental event took place along a stunning 28-kilometre stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram, turning the eastern coast into a sprawling open-air yoga arena.

Mass Yoga Session Breaks Global Record

The scale of participation was unprecedented, with the event meticulously organized into 326 dedicated zones, each accommodating around 1,000 participants. Attendees included students, professionals, yoga enthusiasts, and families from across Andhra Pradesh and beyond. This collective act of wellness and discipline eclipsed previous records and marked a defining moment in the global yoga movement.

‘Yogandhra’ Campaign Culminates in Style

The event was the grand finale of the state’s ambitious Yogandhra campaign, a month-long initiative to promote yoga across all age groups and communities. The campaign reached more than 2.17 crore people and trained 1.44 lakh yoga instructors. Notably, the day before the record attempt, 22,122 tribal students had already performed mass Surya Namaskars, earning a separate recognition of their own.

Prime Minister and CM Lead the Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the Common Yoga Protocol, joined by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, both of whom addressed the gathering with messages of peace and unity. “Yoga brings people together, once again,” said PM Modi, celebrating the spirit of oneness reflected in the record turnout. CM Naidu called the success “a matter of pride for the entire country.”

Tight Security and Planning Ensure Smooth Execution

To ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the event, over 8,000 police personnel, lifeguards, and disaster-response teams were deployed. Security was bolstered with drone surveillance, QR-code based entry, medical tents, water points, and mobile toilets. Despite the scale, the event was executed with remarkable order and efficiency.

A Global Message from the Coast of India

The previous record for a yoga session stood at around 150,000 participants. Vizag’s performance more than doubled that figure, sending a strong message about India’s leadership in global wellness practices. Alongside the Guinness World Record, the state secured 21 additional records under the World Book of Records, bringing the total count for International Yoga Day to 23 accolades.
