Vijay’s Party TVK Opposes ‘One Nation, One Election,’ Slams TN Govt
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, passed resolutions on Sunday opposing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, the Waqf Amendment Bill, and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The resolutions were approved during a meeting chaired by Vijay, with participation from TVK’s executive and district functionaries.
According to an ANI report, TVK criticized the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, for allegedly worsening law and order in the state. The party voiced concern over Tamil Nadu’s deteriorating governance, stating, “Education belongs to the State list, and if the Union Government moves education to the State List, the state government can revoke NEET on its own.”
Opposition to ‘One Nation, One Election’ and Federal Overreach
TVK’s resolution argued that ‘One Nation, One Election’ contradicts the principles of democracy and federalism. The party declared its commitment to opposing any central interference in state matters, including the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill of 2024, currently under review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee. TVK considers the Waqf Amendment Bill an “attack on federalism” and demanded its withdrawal.
Criticism of DMK and BJP
Vijay’s TVK also took aim at both the ruling DMK and the BJP at the Centre. Last week, addressing the party’s state conference in Chennai, Vijay, popularly known as ‘Thalapathy,’ accused the DMK of “cheating people with false promises” under the guise of the Dravidian Model. He alleged that the DMK is engaging in “underground deals” and running an “anti-people government.”
The 50-year-old actor emphasized that TVK’s ideology is grounded in secular social justice, inspired by leaders like EVR Periyar and K Kamaraj.
