Vijay Should Take Moral Responsibility, Says Dhinakaran

T. T. V. Dhinakaran said actor-politician Vijay should accept moral responsibility for the stampede that occurred at his rally in Karur on September 27. Dhinakaran asserted that Vijay’s delays, crowd mismanagement, and lack of adequate safety measures contributed to the tragedy.

Karur Rally Tragedy

The Karur rally, organised by Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), turned deadly when crowds surged toward the stage. Official reports estimate that 40 people died and at least 124 were injured. The event’s conditions—extreme heat, overcrowding, and Vijay’s late arrival—are cited by authorities and media as aggravating factors.

Legal Action

Police have filed criminal cases against senior TVK leaders Bussy Anand, Nirmal Kumar, and V. P. Mathiyalagan. Vijay’s name was not included in the FIR. In response, Dhinakaran urged that Vijay should not be exempted from moral accountability, even if legal proceedings do not name him.

Government Inquiry

A one-member commission led by a retired High Court judge has been appointed by the Tamil Nadu government to investigate the causes and accountability. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin offered compensation of ₹10 lakh to families of the deceased and announced relief measures, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences.

Petition in High Court

Meanwhile, a writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court accusing the state government of shielding Vijay from criminal accountability by excluding him from the FIR.
