Vijay Shankar Set to Join Tripura After TN Move

All-rounder Vijay Shankar has decided to part ways with Tamil Nadu and is set to join the Tripura cricket team for the 2025–26 domestic season. He has already obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and is awaiting Tripura Cricket Association’s final approval.

Following in Vihari’s Footsteps

Shankar will be joining former India Test batsman Hanuma Vihari, who recently shifted to Tripura and is expected to captain the side across formats. The duo’s arrival is being seen as a major boost for Tripura’s domestic prospects.

A Seasoned Performer

Since making his debut in 2012, Shankar has played 58 Ranji Trophy matches for Tamil Nadu, scoring over 3,140 runs at an average above 44, including 11 centuries. In white-ball formats, he has contributed more than 1,700 List A runs and over 1,000 runs in T20s. In the previous Ranji season, he scored close to 480 runs at an average above 52.

New Chapter for Tripura

The inclusion of experienced cricketers like Shankar and Vihari is expected to add depth and stability to Tripura’s lineup as they gear up for the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the upcoming season.
