Vijay Says TVK Will Not Compromise on Religious Harmony
Actor-turned-politician Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, on Monday said his party would not compromise on religious harmony under any circumstances. Speaking at a Christmas celebration event near Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, Vijay stressed that peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among communities form the core of TVK’s political ideology.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Vijay said Tamil Nadu has a long tradition of communal harmony and social justice, and that this legacy must be protected. He said people may follow different religions and lifestyles, but they remain equal citizens and part of the same society. According to him, politics should unite people rather than create divisions along religious or social lines.
Message at Public Event
Vijay said TVK’s commitment to secular values was not limited to election speeches but would be reflected in the party’s actions. He spoke about compassion, kindness and unity as principles that strengthen society and said religious harmony was essential for long-term development and stability. The event saw participation from members of different communities, reinforcing the party’s message of inclusiveness.
Political Context in Tamil Nadu
The remarks come as TVK continues to shape its political identity ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Since launching the party, Vijay has positioned TVK as a platform focused on social justice, equality and clean politics. Political observers see his emphasis on harmony as part of a broader attempt to reach across communities and establish credibility beyond his film career.
Vijay reiterated that TVK would oppose any politics that promotes hatred or division and said the party would stand firmly for unity and constitutional values in the state.
