Vijay Reaches Out to Karur Stampede Families
Nearly ten days after a tragic stampede at his rally in Karur, actor-turned-politician Vijay has contacted families of the deceased using video calls. The stampede, which occurred on September 27, claimed 41 lives.
Party Team Visits Villages
His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), sent a team led by K. G. Arunraj to meet bereaved families in villages such as Emur. During these visits, the team connected relatives of victims with Vijay via video call.
Emotional Interaction
Vijay offered condolences and promised support, telling families he would “stand by them like family.” At least eight families have been contacted so far, with the party planning to reach all 27 affected families. Relatives described Vijay as emotional, breaking down at times, while assuring them of relief assistance.
Promise of Relief and Visit
The actor-politician also assured families that he intends to personally visit Karur soon and extend support. Families were asked not to record the calls, which were intended as private gestures of solidarity.
Criticism and Investigation
Vijay’s outreach follows criticism over his delayed presence in Karur after the tragedy. Opposition leaders termed the response inadequate, while the state government has defended its relief efforts. Meanwhile, the High Court has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the causes of the stampede.
