Vijay Denies TVK Role in Karur Stampede Probe
Actor and TVK president Vijay has told the Central Bureau of Investigation that neither he nor his party was responsible for the Karur stampede, according to officials familiar with the questioning. Vijay was examined by the CBI as part of its investigation into the deadly incident.
Statement to Investigators
During questioning, Vijay stated that he left the event venue to prevent further crowding and disorder. He maintained that the stampede was not caused by any action or instruction from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam or its organisers. He also said the crowd surge occurred due to factors beyond the party’s control.
Probe Continues
The Karur stampede occurred during a political event and led to multiple casualties, prompting widespread outrage and demands for accountability. The case was later handed over to the CBI, which is examining crowd management arrangements, event planning, and the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
Investigators are reviewing statements from organisers, officials, and eyewitnesses, along with video footage and other evidence. The agency is expected to summon additional individuals as the probe progresses.
