Vijay Calls Tamil Nadu Poll a Democratic War

Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay addressed supporters at his first major public rally after being questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Speaking to party workers, Vijay said the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election is “not just an election but a democratic war” and called on cadres to remain alert, united, and committed to protecting democratic values. He asserted that intimidation or pressure would not weaken his political resolve.

Politics Amid Film Controversy

The rally took place amid ongoing controversy surrounding Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, which has been delayed due to certification-related and legal issues. Vijay clarified that the film row would be addressed through lawful processes and should not be used to distract from political discourse. He emphasised that artistic expression and democratic participation must be respected.

During his address, Vijay criticised both the DMK and AIADMK, accusing them of straying from the principles laid down by former Tamil Nadu leader C.N. Annadurai. He projected TVK as a fresh political alternative ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, promising transparent governance and people-first policies.

The CBI questioning is linked to an ongoing investigation into crowd management lapses during a political event in Tamil Nadu that resulted in casualties. Officials have stated that the probe is continuing, with no final findings announced yet.
