Venezuela Condemns US Tariffs on Cuba Oil Suppliers
Venezuela has strongly criticised the United States decision to impose tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba, calling the move punitive and unjustified. The Venezuelan government said the measures amount to economic coercion and violate international trade norms.
Tariffs Called Punitive
Venezuelan officials said the US action unfairly targets nations that maintain legitimate energy and trade relations with Cuba. They warned that restricting oil supplies would worsen Cuba’s ongoing fuel shortages and deepen economic hardship for ordinary citizens.
Solidarity With Cuba
Caracas reaffirmed its solidarity with the Cuban government and people, stating that access to energy is critical for healthcare, food distribution and basic services. Venezuela accused Washington of using economic pressure as a political tool rather than engaging through diplomacy.
Regional Impact and Tensions
The tariffs have raised concerns across Latin America, where several countries view the move as an escalation that could destabilise the region. Venezuelan authorities urged the international community to oppose policies that, in their view, threaten humanitarian conditions and regional cooperation.
The US decision is part of a broader strategy to increase pressure on Cuba by discouraging external energy support.
