Vehicle’s Multiple Owners Raise Terror Link Concerns
Authorities are investigating a vehicle explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that occurred on Monday evening, after initial forensic findings revealed an unusual pattern of ownership linked to the car involved. Investigators found no major crater, shrapnel, or pellets at the site — leading experts to suspect a controlled blast or a low-intensity explosive device. The incident has prompted central agencies to explore the possibility of a terror link.
Ownership Trail and Possible Terror Link
The car, identified as a Hyundai i20 bearing registration number HR 26 7674, was originally registered in Gurugram. The first owner reportedly sold it in March, after which the vehicle changed hands multiple times using questionable documents and fictitious identities — one reportedly linked to Pulwama. Investigators believe the layered ownership could indicate a deliberate attempt to obscure the vehicle’s origins, a method often used in terror-related activities. Witnesses claimed that up to three individuals were seen in the car shortly before the explosion.
Investigative Response and Next Steps
Delhi Police and national security agencies are scanning over 230 CCTV cameras to trace the vehicle’s route and identify suspects. Officials are also investigating whether the explosion occurred while the car was in motion, which could explain the absence of typical blast patterns. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to formally take over the case to probe potential terror financing and cross-border coordination angles.
