Vande Bharat Trains to Operate on Bullet Train Corridor
India is set to deploy Vande Bharat trains on its bullet train corridor as a temporary measure until the Japanese Shinkansen trains are ready for operation. The decision aims to utilize the state-of-the-art corridor effectively while preparations for the high-speed Shinkansen services continue.

Officials confirmed the decision, stating, “The bullet train corridor is a critical infrastructure project, and operating Vande Bharat trains will ensure optimal utilization until the Shinkansen trains arrive.” The move underscores the government’s commitment to maximizing the benefits of this ambitious high-speed rail project from the outset.
The bullet train corridor, a flagship project under India’s partnership with Japan, is expected to revolutionize rail transport in the country. While the Shinkansen trains are under development and being customized for Indian conditions, Vande Bharat trains, known for their speed and efficiency, will temporarily serve passengers on this route.
Vande Bharat as a Stopgap Solution
Vande Bharat trains, designed and manufactured domestically, have gained significant recognition for their modern features and fast travel. These semi-high-speed trains can achieve speeds of up to 160 km/h, making them a suitable alternative for the bullet train corridor during the interim period.
The trains will operate on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, the first phase of the bullet train corridor. This arrangement will not only help in testing the corridor’s readiness but also familiarize passengers with high-speed rail travel.
Shinkansen Arrival Timeline
