US Urges Citizens To Leave Iran Ahead Of Talks
The United States Virtual Embassy for Iran has advised American citizens to leave the country immediately ahead of expected diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran, citing heightened security concerns and limited consular assistance inside Iran.
US Advisory For Citizens In Iran
The advisory warned that US nationals in Iran face increased risk due to regional tensions and the absence of direct diplomatic relations. Because the United States does not maintain an embassy in Iran, assistance options are limited during emergencies. Citizens were urged to depart using available commercial routes and avoid non-essential travel to the country.
Authorities also asked Americans to stay alert, avoid large gatherings and monitor local developments until they leave.
Washington Tehran Talks And Security Risks
The warning comes as officials prepare for discussions aimed at addressing bilateral issues and regional stability. Security alerts are commonly issued before sensitive negotiations, particularly when political tensions could lead to demonstrations or disruptions affecting foreigners.
Officials said changing conditions could restrict travel routes without prior notice.
Travel Safety And Consular Support Limits
The US government said its ability to provide help inside Iran is restricted and relies on protecting powers through third countries for communication. Travellers were advised to register their presence through available notification systems and maintain contact with family members.
The advisory remains in effect while authorities monitor developments related to the upcoming talks.
