US To Send Patriot Missiles To Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States will send Patriot missile systems to Ukraine. This comes amid growing concern over intensified Russian missile and drone attacks targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Trump said Ukraine “desperately needs” these air defence systems and added that the European Union will reimburse the cost incurred by the US. However, he did not specify how many systems will be provided.

Shift In US Policy

This announcement marks a change in stance from earlier this month, when Trump temporarily paused the transfer of some military aid to Ukraine. The reversal follows increasing criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s continued strikes despite diplomatic gestures. “He talks nice, then bombs everybody in the evening,” Trump remarked.

Importance Of Patriot Systems

Patriot missiles are designed to intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. Ukraine already operates a few of these systems, but the new supplies are expected to significantly bolster its ability to defend critical infrastructure.

Trump also stated that while the US would provide the equipment, financial responsibility would be taken on by allied nations. Further discussions with NATO officials are scheduled in the coming days to coordinate logistics.

Europe And NATO Coordination

Reports suggest that European countries, including Germany, are working with the US on joint support packages. NATO’s new leadership is expected to play a key role in overseeing the deployment and integration of the air defence units.

This move signals renewed Western resolve to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities and contain Russian escalation as the conflict enters a sensitive phase.
