US to Deny Visas for Celebrating Kirk’s Assassination
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the administration will deny or revoke visas for foreigners who publicly celebrate or glorify the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist. He emphasized that such behaviour is unacceptable and incompatible with US values.
Supporting Statement by Deputy Secretary
Earlier, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said that foreigners who “glorify violence and hatred” are not welcome in the United States. He has directed consular officials to take “appropriate action” in such cases.
What Might Change
Rubio made clear that visas shouldn’t be granted to individuals planning to engage in such conduct, and existing visas may be revoked if the holders are already present in the US and are found to have celebrated or praised the killing.
Context of the Assassination
Charlie Kirk, 31-year-old political activist, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, in Utah while speaking at an event. The incident sparked widespread reaction, including social media posts celebrating his death. These developments prompted the government’s response regarding visa policies.
