US Thanks Pakistan for Considering Role in Gaza Force

The United States has said it is grateful to Pakistan for offering to consider participation in a proposed international stabilization force for the Gaza Strip. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the remarks during an end-of-year press conference in Washington, responding to questions about Islamabad’s willingness to join multinational efforts aimed at peacebuilding in the war-affected territory.

No formal troop commitment yet

Rubio clarified that no formal decision has been made by Pakistan to send troops, and that discussions with Islamabad are ongoing. He said that while Pakistan has expressed interest in being part of the stabilisation effort, further clarity on the mandate, rules of engagement and funding arrangements is needed before any country can commit personnel to the force.

Context of the stabilization force

The proposed multinational force is part of broader diplomatic efforts to consolidate a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after years of conflict. The plan includes creating a “Board of Peace” and supporting governance and security arrangements in Gaza once hostilities subside. Several nations have been in talks with the US about contributing to the mission, but many have sought assurances about their role and the force’s operational framework.

Pakistan’s stance and international response

Officials in Islamabad have reiterated that no final decision has been taken on troop deployment, reflecting domestic sensitivities and public opinion. The US, for its part, said it is confident that multiple countries will eventually support the stabilization effort once key questions are resolved, underlining continued diplomatic engagement.
