US Shoots Down Iranian Drone Near Aircraft Carrier
The United States military said it shot down an Iranian drone after it aggressively approached a US aircraft carrier operating in international waters in the Arabian Sea.
Drone Intercepted in Self-Defence
According to US officials, the unmanned aerial vehicle flew close to the aircraft carrier and was assessed as a potential threat. A US Navy fighter aircraft intercepted and destroyed the drone to ensure the safety of the carrier strike group. No injuries or damage to US personnel or equipment were reported.
Incident Amid Regional Tensions
The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with frequent encounters between US and Iranian forces in key maritime regions. US authorities said the carrier was conducting routine operations when the drone approached.
The US military reiterated that its forces retain the right to defend themselves against hostile actions and will continue to operate in international waters in accordance with international law.
Iran has not issued an immediate response to the US account of the incident.
