US Push for Ukraine Peace Plan Faces Resistance

The United States’ latest effort to advance a negotiated peace framework for the Ukraine war is facing strong opposition as talks continue. The peace proposal, which originally contained over two dozen clauses, has been revised after concerns that some terms appeared to favour Russian strategic interests.

Key Sticking Points Slow Negotiations

Diplomatic sources indicate that Russia continues to insist on territorial concessions and long-term limits on Ukraine’s defence posture. Ukraine, however, has rejected any arrangement that compromises sovereignty or restricts future security partnerships. These conflicting positions have slowed progress and left negotiators with limited room for compromise.

Western Allies Voice Concerns

Several European partners have raised objections, saying the current plan does not adequately address Ukraine’s long-term safety. Critics argue that the proposal prioritises an immediate ceasefire without creating a sustainable framework that prevents renewed conflict. Ukrainian officials have echoed these concerns, stressing the need for clear guarantees.

Talks Continue Despite Uncertainty

Despite the challenges, US officials are continuing discussions with both Kyiv and Moscow. Diplomatic engagement is expected to intensify in the coming weeks, but analysts warn that without amendments acceptable to both sides, the peace process may struggle to move forward.
