The United States’ latest effort to advance a negotiated peace framework for the Ukraine war is facing strong opposition as talks continue. Key Sticking Points Slow Negotiations
Diplomatic sources indicate that Russia continues to insist on territorial concessions and long-term limits on Ukraine’s defence posture. Ukraine, however, has rejected any arrangement that compromises sovereignty or restricts future security partnerships. These conflicting positions have slowed progress and left negotiators with limited room for compromise.

Several European partners have raised objections, saying the current plan does not adequately address Ukraine’s long-term safety. Critics argue that the proposal prioritises an immediate ceasefire without creating a sustainable framework that prevents renewed conflict.
