US Official Calls India’s Trade Proposal “Best Offer Ever”
A senior US trade official has said that India has presented the “best offers ever received” during recent discussions on bilateral trade. The official revealed that negotiators from both sides are close to finalising agreements on several issues that have remained unresolved for years.
Old disputes back on the table
The current round of talks includes long-pending matters such as agricultural market access, tariff barriers and regulatory rules. Officials said both governments are showing flexibility, with India submitting proposals that Washington considers “highly constructive”. The aim is to reduce friction, expand trade volumes and support investment.
Momentum after high-level visits
Trade cooperation between the two countries has gained momentum after a series of high-level meetings this year. New working groups have been formed to handle specific sectors, including digital trade, medical devices and manufacturing. The official said that both sides see “strong economic gains” from faster resolution.
Final decisions expected soon
Talks are expected to continue over the coming weeks as technical teams complete assessments. While no formal timeline has been announced, officials believe that final agreements could be reached soon if both sides maintain the current pace. Business groups have welcomed the development, saying improved market access will help companies in both countries.
