US Imposes Sanctions on Indian Firms for Supplying Russian Companies

The United States announced sanctions on nearly 400 entities and individuals globally, including four Indian firms, for their alleged role in supporting Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine.

This move, which covers businesses across more than a dozen countries, is the most extensive targeting of third-country evasion networks to date, according to US officials.

The sanctions, issued by the US Department of State, the Treasury, and the Department of Commerce, aim to curb Russia’s access to critical components used in its military operations. Of the listed Indian firms, Ascend Aviation India Private Limited was highlighted for reportedly dispatching over 700 shipments, valued at more than $200,000, to Russian companies between March 2023 and March 2024. Many of these shipments included US-origin aircraft components.

Another firm, Mask Trans, allegedly provided $300,000 worth of aviation parts to Russian entities, including the US-designated S7 ENGINEERING LLC, from June 2023 to April 2024. Additional firms named were TSMD Global Private Limited, which is said to have supplied over $430,000 in electronic components to several Russian companies, and Futrevo, linked to more than $1.4 million in component shipments to Russia-based SMT-ILOGIC, a drone manufacturer.

US Seeks to Halt Russia’s Global Procurement Channels

The US State Department stated that these sanctions aim to disrupt global supply chains supporting Russia’s military-industrial sector. Targeted firms operate in critical sectors like microelectronics and computer numerical control items (CNC) listed on the Common High Priority List (CHPL), developed in collaboration with the European Union, United Kingdom, and Japan.

The US asserts that entities in India, China, Türkiye, and the UAE continue to provide Russia with essential dual-use technology and components for weaponry used in Ukraine. By sanctioning suppliers in third-party countries, the US seeks to limit Russia’s ability to sustain its war efforts.

The US emphasized that it will leverage all resources to stifle support for Russia’s military initiatives, highlighting a concerted effort to enforce strict compliance across global supply chains that Russia taps into for its defense operations.
