US, Europe Meet on Russia Sanctions

U.S. and European officials convened at the U.S. Treasury Department to discuss new economic measures targeting Russia. The talks focused on expanding sanctions, adding tariffs on Russian oil imports, and managing frozen Russian sovereign assets.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent underscored President Donald Trump’s intent to take strong action against Moscow. He stressed that European cooperation was essential to make sanctions effective and prevent gaps in enforcement.

Follow-Up Scheduled

The two-hour meeting brought together senior officials from U.S. agencies including the Treasury, State Department, and Trade Office, along with European representatives handling finance, energy, and trade. Both sides agreed to hold a follow-up meeting on Tuesday to finalize coordinated measures.
