US Election: Poll Shows Harris Leading Trump in Iowa, Sparks ‘Fake Poll’ Claims

A recent poll by the Des Moines Register has shown Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Donald Trump in Iowa by a narrow margin of 47 percent to 44 percent among likely voters, a surprising result as the US election approaches its final stretch.

Trump, however, dismissed the poll’s findings, calling it “fake” and asserting his strong support among Iowa voters.

“One of my enemies just puts out a poll – I am 3 down. (Iowa Senator) Joni Ernst called me, everyone’s called me, they said you are killing in Iowa. The farmers love me and I love them,” Trump stated at a rally in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state. He further insisted, “I’m not down in Iowa,” as Election Day on November 5 rapidly approaches.

Tight Race with Early Voting in Full Swing

The latest Iowa poll, released on Saturday, reveals Harris benefiting from support among women and independent voters, critical demographics that could prove decisive in the upcoming election. This comes after Trump previously secured Iowa in both 2016 and 2020 by margins of over 8 percentage points. Early voting trends are also shaping the race, with over 75 million Americans having cast their ballots as of Sunday, according to the University of Florida’s Election Lab.

The Des Moines Register poll surveyed 808 likely Iowa voters between October 28 and 31, including those who have already voted or plan to vote. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. Previous surveys by the same outlet showed varying dynamics; in September, Trump held a four-point lead over Harris, while a June poll showed him leading by 18 points over President Joe Biden.

Polls Reflect a Close Contest

In addition to the Iowa poll, a separate survey by NBC News has illustrated the neck-and-neck nature of the Harris-Trump race nationwide, with each candidate receiving 49 percent support in a head-to-head matchup. As both campaigns continue their efforts in battleground states, Election Day will reveal whether Harris maintains her lead or if Trump can regain ground in Iowa and other key areas.

With polls showing shifts in voter sentiment and both candidates intensifying their campaigns, the final days before the election are set to be crucial in determining the future leadership of the United States.
