US Criticises China Over Radar Incident, Backs Japan

The United States has criticised China after Japanese authorities reported that Chinese fighter jets aimed radar at Japanese military aircraft near Okinawa. The US called the incident dangerous and said such behaviour increases the risk of miscalculation in the region.

Strong support for Japan

The US State Department said its commitment to Japan is “unwavering” and that it will continue to stand by its ally in maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific. Officials added that actions that threaten aircraft or vessels are not acceptable and must be avoided.

China rejects accusation

China denied Japan’s claims and said its forces were conducting lawful military exercises. Beijing accused Japanese aircraft of intruding into the exercise area. The incident comes at a time of increasing tension between the two neighbours, with both sides stepping up patrols in nearby waters and airspace.

Regional tensions remain high

The radar dispute follows recent joint air patrols by China and Russia near Japan, which led to additional scrambles by Japan’s air force. Analysts warned that repeated confrontations could lead to further escalation unless both sides improve communication and safety protocols.
