US Border Patrol Arrests 30 Indians in California

US Border Patrol agents in California have arrested 30 Indian nationals living in the United States without legal status, officials said on Wednesday. The arrests occurred during operations targeting individuals with commercial driver’s licences who were driving semitrucks while unlawfully residing in the country.

Arrests at checkpoints and highway stops

Between November 23 and December 12, Border Patrol agents working in the El Centro Sector stopped vehicles at immigration checkpoints and on interstate highways. During these stops, authorities detained 49 individuals who were in the US illegally and found to be operating semitrucks with commercial driver’s licences. Of those detained, 30 were Indian nationals, while others held citizenship from several different countries.

Details of the enforcement operation

State authorities issued most of the commercial driver’s licences held by those arrested; California was listed as the issuer for the majority of the licences, with others issued by states including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington. The operation involved coordination between Border Patrol and other federal agencies.

Operation Highway Sentinel

In addition to regular checkpoint stops, agents took part in Operation Highway Sentinel, a multi-day enforcement initiative aimed at commercial trucking companies in Ontario and Fontana, California. This operation led to further arrests of individuals living in the US without proper immigration status and driving large commercial vehicles.

Safety and immigration enforcement focus

Authorities said the efforts were intended to uphold immigration laws and enhance safety on highways by preventing individuals without proper legal status from operating large trucks. The announcements come amid broader enforcement activities aimed at addressing illegal immigration and regulatory compliance within the commercial transportation sector.
