UP on High Alert Along Nepal Border Amid Gen Z Protests

The Uttar Pradesh government has placed all districts adjoining Nepal—Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj—on high alert. Additional police, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and PAC units have been deployed, with round-the-clock patrolling and surveillance to prevent spillover of unrest from Nepal.

Checkpoints, Helplines, and Monitoring Systems

Authorities have activated 73 check posts in the Devipatan division. A 24/7 helpline and a WhatsApp channel have been launched for Indian citizens. A dedicated social media monitoring cell has also been tasked with scanning and flagging sensitive content linked to Nepal’s crisis.

Local Disruption and Community Anxiety

Border markets, including Rupaidiha, have witnessed reduced footfall as Nepalese buyers stayed away. In Gorakhpur, tourism operators reported cancellations leading to a 30–50% drop in business. Travel agents are advising customers to switch from cross-border tours to domestic travel options.
