UP Firecracker Factory Blast Death Toll Rises to 5, Probe Ordered
The death toll from the explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in a village in Uttar Pradesh has risen to five after two more victims succumbed to their injuries on Thursday. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Sirauli Police Station area, causing widespread damage and leading to disciplinary action against local police officials.
Explosion Leads to Police Suspensions and Probe
In the aftermath of the tragic blast, Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya suspended four police personnel, including two sub-inspectors and two constables, for negligence. The local Station House Officer (SHO) Ravi Kumar was also removed from his position and sent to Police Lines, while an investigation has been ordered against Circle Officer Gaurav Singh.
The suspended officers have been identified as Sub-Inspectors Deshraj Singh and Nahar Singh, along with Constables Ajay and Surendra. The police are currently verifying the licensing details of the firecracker manufacturing unit to determine the legality of its operations.
Blast Causes Damage to Adjoining Buildings
The explosion, which took place around 4 pm on Wednesday, not only resulted in casualties but also caused structural damage to at least three adjacent buildings. According to Inspector General (IG) Rakesh Singh, the factory operator, Nasir, allegedly held a licence for another location, while the blast occurred at a house belonging to his in-laws.
“We have recovered remains of locally-made crackers from the spot. Prima facie it appears that the blast occurred because of them,” stated SSP Arya, ruling out any deliberate act or sabotage. The police are now investigating whether the production and storage of firecrackers at the site were in violation of safety regulations.
Chief Minister Offers Condolences and Orders Assistance
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive proper medical treatment. The Chief Minister has also directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The tragic explosion has once again highlighted the need for strict regulation and monitoring of firecracker manufacturing units in the state. The findings of the ongoing probe will be crucial in determining accountability and implementing safety measures to prevent further loss of life and property.
