Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Rejects Congress Allegations

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over slogans raised at a recent Congress rally targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rijiju said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has never spoken about harming or killing anyone and accused the Congress of lowering political discourse through provocative language.

Responding to remarks made during the rally, Rijiju said attempts to link the Prime Minister or the NDA with violence were irresponsible and misleading. He asserted that the NDA’s politics has always been rooted in democratic values and constitutional processes.

Demand for Apology From Rahul Gandhi

The Union minister demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi, stating that such slogans not only damage political decorum but also mislead the public. Rijiju said opposition leaders must exercise restraint and ensure that criticism remains within democratic and legal boundaries.

He added that repeatedly targeting the Prime Minister with extreme accusations reflects political frustration rather than constructive opposition. Rijiju also accused the Congress of trying to polarise voters through sensational rhetoric instead of presenting policy alternatives.

Political Reactions and Broader Context

The remarks have added to the ongoing war of words between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress ahead of upcoming political contests. BJP leaders said they expect the opposition to focus on governance issues rather than personal attacks.

Congress leaders, meanwhile, maintained that their criticism was aimed at government policies and denied promoting violence. The episode highlights the increasingly sharp tone of political campaigning, with leaders from both sides trading allegations as public rallies intensify across the country.
