UN Food Chief Warns of Starvation in Gaza

World Food Programme Executive Director Cindy McCain has warned that women and children in Gaza are actively starving. After visiting the territory earlier this week, she said the suffering was “very evident,” with families facing acute hunger and food shortages.

Urgent Plea to Israeli Leadership

McCain raised the issue directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pressing for more aid access. She stressed that humanitarian convoys must be allowed safer and larger-scale entry. Israel has permitted more than 300 aid trucks daily, but aid agencies say the number remains far below what is needed to stabilize the crisis.

Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

Her comments came soon after a United Nations assessment declared famine conditions in Gaza’s largest city, warning that hunger is spreading rapidly across the territory. The report stated that unless aid flows improve significantly, the situation could worsen further in the coming weeks.

Calls for Immediate Action

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has described the crisis as catastrophic and urged swift action from all parties. Aid agencies continue to call for expanded humanitarian corridors, saying time is running out for thousands of civilians, particularly vulnerable women and children.
