UN Chief Cites India-EU Trade Deal

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has pointed to the India-European Union trade agreement as an example of how global cooperation can support a multipolar world order. He said no single country or narrow group of powers can address today’s global challenges on their own.

Call for Multipolar Cooperation

Guterres stressed that power is becoming more distributed across regions and countries, making cooperation essential for stability and growth. He said multipolarity must be supported through strong institutions, open trade, and respect for international rules.

Trade Deals as Building Blocks

Referring to the India-EU agreement, the UN chief said such partnerships help create wider networks in trade, technology, and development. He added that agreements between large and diverse economies can reduce dependence on single power centres and promote balanced global engagement.

Global Context

Guterres warned that unmanaged competition between major powers could increase instability. He urged countries to strengthen multilateral platforms and use economic cooperation to bridge political and strategic divides.
