Ukraine, Russia, US Hold First Trilateral Peace Talks

Ukraine and Russia have held their first direct talks in several years as part of a new peace initiative proposed by the United States. The discussions took place in Istanbul and mark a rare moment of direct engagement between the two sides since diplomatic channels collapsed early in the war.

Focus Of The Discussions

The talks centred on elements of the latest U.S. peace framework, including ceasefire conditions, security guarantees, and possible pathways toward broader negotiations. Ukrainian officials reiterated that any agreement must respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity, while Russia maintained its long-stated position on control over occupied regions.

No Breakthrough Yet

Officials from both sides indicated that the discussions were exploratory and did not result in any immediate agreement. However, the meeting itself was seen as a significant development amid ongoing hostilities, missile strikes, and battlefield fighting. Further talks may follow if preliminary conditions are met.
