UK Sees 257% Rise in Sexual-Offence Convictions by Indians

Between 2021 and 2024, sexual-offence sentence events involving Indian nationals in the UK jumped by 257%, rising from 28 in 2021 to 100 in 2024. This was the steepest increase among all foreign nationality groups during that period.

Data Reflects Sentencing Events, Not Unique Individuals

Authorities clarified that the numbers refer to sentencing occasions—not individual offenders. This distinction means repeat convictions for the same individual may be included in the total counts.

Wider Crime Trends for Indian Nationals

Indian nationals also registered a significant rise in serious offence convictions—up 115%, from 273 in 2021 to 588 in 2024—placing them among the top foreign-national groups in terms of percentage growth.

Small Share of Migration Numbers

Despite the rising conviction figures, Indian arrivals via irregular routes remain relatively low: in 2024, 293 Indian nationals arrived via small boats, with 206 arriving in the first half of 2025.
