UK Nationals Urged to Leave Lebanon Immediately Amid Escalating Israel-Hezbollah Tensions
The UK government has urged British nationals in Lebanon to “leave immediately” as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to escalate. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “We are ramping up contingency plans, which is necessary given the escalation,” adding that the region is “potentially on the brink” of an all-out war.
Amid the rising conflict in the Middle East, Israel’s military has confirmed it is launching fresh strikes in southern Lebanon. According to a BBC report, six people have been killed in the latest attacks on Wednesday.
In response to the worsening situation, the UK’s Ministry of Defence is deploying 700 troops to Cyprus to prepare for a potential evacuation of British nationals from Lebanon. The UK government has reiterated its advisory against all travel to Lebanon.
Approximately 10,000 British nationals are currently in Lebanon, and other countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and the United States, have also advised their citizens to leave the country.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah militants have targeted Israel’s Mossad spy agency headquarters and launched multiple rocket attacks into northern Israel. The Israeli military reported that one surface-to-surface missile crossing from Lebanon was intercepted by air defense systems.
