UAE Urges Restraint as Yemen Crisis Escalates
The United Arab Emirates has urged all parties in Yemen to exercise restraint as the situation on the ground changes rapidly, raising fears of renewed instability in the conflict-hit country. In a statement, the UAE said it was closely monitoring developments and stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could further escalate violence or undermine prospects for peace.
Fighting Intensifies in Southern Yemen
The appeal comes amid renewed clashes in southern Yemen, where forces aligned with the internationally recognised government have moved to regain control of areas previously held by rival armed groups. The latest developments have highlighted deep divisions within Yemen’s anti-Houthi camp and increased tensions among regional backers involved in the conflict. Observers say these shifts risk opening new fronts in a war that has already devastated the country for years.
Emphasis on Dialogue and Political Process
The UAE said that dialogue and political engagement remain the only viable path to long-term stability in Yemen. It called on Yemeni factions to prioritise national interests, protect civilians, and prevent further deterioration of security conditions. The statement underlined that continued fighting would worsen the humanitarian crisis and complicate international efforts to stabilise the country.
Regional and Humanitarian Concerns
The renewed instability has raised concerns across the region, with fears that prolonged conflict could spill over and affect wider Gulf security. The UAE reiterated support for regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement. It also stressed the need to ensure humanitarian access and safeguard civilians as the crisis continues to evolve.
