Typhoon Bualoi Tears Through Vietnam, Leaves Dead And Missing

Typhoon Bualoi struck Vietnam’s central coast on Monday, leaving at least nine people dead and 17 fishermen missing. The storm brought powerful winds, heavy rainfall and flooding to provinces including Nghe An, Hue and Thanh Hoa.

Large-Scale Evacuations And Disruptions

Officials said the typhoon made landfall early in the day with peak winds near 117 km/h, before weakening inland. Waves over 8 meters battered coastal areas, damaging homes, infrastructure and power lines. Authorities evacuated over 28,500 people from high-risk regions. Four coastal airports were closed, and hundreds of flights cancelled. Flooding has already been reported in Hue and Quang Tri, with warnings of landslides in mountainous zones.

Damage And Missing Fishermen

Reports confirm 245 houses damaged and nearly 1,400 hectares of crops flooded. Roads remain blocked in parts of central Vietnam, and communications are disrupted in remote districts. Seventeen fishermen are still missing after their boats were caught in rough seas off Quang Tri province. Search and rescue teams continue operations.

Aftermath And Forecast

As Bualoi moves inland toward Laos, wind speeds have reduced to around 74 km/h. Heavy rainfall of up to 500 mm is expected in some regions, raising fears of flash floods and landslides. The storm had earlier caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and displaced thousands before hitting Vietnam.
